1. Sydney Alfredo: I have three tattoos - all of which I have gotten in the past year. I have always wanted one, but never knew what to get or where, so last summer when I was able to go to Scotland for my first solo overseas trip, I couldn't sleep one night and started drawing and came up with a crescent moon with half of a sunflower coming out of the full side of it and got it tattooed on my left shoulder blade the next day. It was a great way for me to commemorate my favorite trip to my favorite country. I then wanted to get another one when my friend got her first one, so I started drawing pineapple designs while she was getting hers done and as that was happening, I found out that I was going to have to put my dog down that night, so I sad-impulsively made the appointment to tattoo it on my right calf. And the third I got a week later of my recently-passed dog's paw print on my right upper arm because he is my favorite thing in the world and it was inevitable. I love all three of my tattoos, but that one is my favorite, especially because it was the print of the paw he would always use to give me a handshake, which was his prized special trick that he would always do for attention from me.

6. Maggie: I have a Mandela type of giraffe on my right thigh and I got it because I've loved giraffes for a while. I get so many compliments on it and I love it so so much. It was very overwhelming when I got it though. I was like "oh shit this is gonna be on me forever" but I don't regret it at all.

My great grandfather passed away in 2014 and I was very close with him and I took the last birthday card of mine that he had signed and took that card into the tattoo shop and I took his signature and decided to get that tattooed on my ribs. I never go a day without thinking of him!

Jacob is my friend I met at the Ronald Mcdonald House in Salt Lake City and he passed away October 25, 2016. He was the first person I met in Salt Lake City and the first friend that accepted me for me and didn't judge me because of my illness.

Kelli Danielle: One of my favorite comic books growing up was Calvin and Hobbes, I owned the entire collection and so I got a C&H tattoo on my arm and it looks like they are going on an adventure. I will be adding a moon, stars and woodsy outdoor scene around it as well, because my favorite thing to do was sleep under the stars as a kid and be outside and hiking in the mountains.

He came up with this saying right after I had gone through a terrible breakup and it just stuck! My second one says Joy and that's my grandmothers name. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for her constantly being by my side! My third one says Kisses and Hugs and that's in my grandmothers handwriting. Every time I see her I always make sure to give her a hug and kiss before we leave and she wrote me a very heartfelt letter and signed it Kisses and Hugs. When she gave me that letter I went out that day and got it tattooed on me. My fourth one says Blessed in my fiance's handwriting. It symbolizes how blessed we are to have our beautiful daughter. My fifth one is my daughters birth day in Roman numerals. And my sixth one is the zodiac sign Leo for my sister!

I got my first one when I was 25 and it's one that I thought about getting for a very long time but that ended up getting at the spur of the moment and it's a University of Oklahoma logo that I got after they beat the University of Texas in football for the 5th consecutive year. I grew up as a Sooner fan, I remain a loyal fan to this day, always cheering them on in all things and I will always do so. While I actually graduated from a different university, I did attend OU for a time and it will always be where true heart lies. My other tattoo is one that also special, but for a very different reason. It's a shamrock that has my grandmother's initials on it and my little sister has one that identical to mine. I actually took her for her 18th birthday and we got them together.

A drunk person hit her. And I lost my other cousin to a serious accident and then my uncle to suicide. But God is good and it is well with my soul 💕

If it wasn't for my mom, husband and uncle getting my door down I wouldn't be hear today. The semi colon reminds me the my story's not over and no matter how bad my story get I chose to keep my book going.

53. ToysVideoGameLover: There is no way to play PS1 games on a PS4 sadly, as the PS4 was made to be more advanced and have technology close to a computer. You would better be off downloading emulators (software that allows you to download old games and play it on your computer), or buy an old PS1 for about $40 on a trusted website. There are places that sell used PS1s and they are not that expensive. You just have to find a trustworthy seller. -From a video game nerd and gamer

I got it when I was almost 2 years recovered and it's a constant reminder to me that I overcame that battle and to keep fighting through. I got it on my foot so I could always look at it. Unfortunately I have been battling my depression and anxiety for the last 8 months and I've gained weight back. 70. Jamie Mesler: I have a tattoo of a Sun with the words "you are my sunshine" and my grandparents names. They were together from when they were in 6th grade and married almost 80 years. They took my mom (not their daughter) when her parents kicked her out for getting pregnant at 18 and their son left her. When he passed away from cancer, she had Alzheimer's but still got up and sang their song, You are my sunshine, in front of everyone, even though, near the end, she would confuse him for her dad. I got my tattoo to remember to be selfless and remind me what love should be like.

113. Sarcastically_me: I only have one tattoo and it's a cardinal. Cardinals have always been correlated to my great grandpa, whenever we see one we feel like he's watching over us. He was the best man I ever knew. I also got it on my wrist, not to get too dark, but after being suicidal and depressed, I needed a reminder that my life was precious to someone and anytime I feel like I might want to do something harmful, it's there to comfort me in those dark moments.

My first I got is a star and moon linked together that represents my Indian heritage, and a dream catcher I got as kid. My second is a semicolon, it's meaning is online but to briefly summarize its to acknowledge and bring awareness to mental health. I've had close friends, my father and my little sister struggle with this and it's a thing that affects many people and is close to my heart. 125. Larissa Amber: I have 2 tattoos, a sparrow(symbol of God and strength) and a dove(symbol of Jesus, love and peace. I got them after being brave enough to speak out about domestic violence that I had been experiencing severely for 15 years. They remind me of who got me through it and that out of pain(cuz tattoos do hurt) comes beauty. And beauty to share with others to inspire and help out those who are in similar situations that I was in. My ink doesn't remind me of the abuse or my abuser, it's a religious reminder and a symbol of strength that I'm very proud of.

129. Nanci Martin: My tattoo is a purple butterfly sitting on a blue rose. My seventh grade English teacher was really the person who made me fall in love with literature and we became very close. She was also good friends with my grandmother so it was easy to stay in touch. she was there for a lot of my milestones and for my 16th birthday she gave me this beautiful customized jewelry box with my name on it surrounded by butterflies. She was obsessed with the color purple. Her entire wardrobe and classroom was purple. She passed away New Year's day from ovarian cancer during my senior year. It was hard knowing she couldn't physically be there for my future milestones. The purple butterfly is so that I will always feel like she's still with me and the blue rose is a reference to my favorite piece of literature, The Glass Menagerie.

132. breaking 7x: I've got 16 tattoos, only 2 are meaningless "cookie cutter" tattoos. I have a watercolor phoenix, but it's part of a thigh piece so very few people see it anyway. All of my tattoos have meaning, and over the last 10 years of getting them, they still mean the same to me now as they did when I got them. It's hard to outgrow them in my opinion.

I tried doing corpse party since it was for psp but I could never figure out how to get it to work. it either downloaded wrong, wouldn't open or there was no sound but gameplay 😂 so it can be tricky sometimes. It's okay to be as cautious as you're being about your first tattoo. At first I had so many ideas that seemed meaningful to me at the time. It wasn't until I had a dream in which my dog comforted me by putting his paw on my arm (like he did irl) and his print stayed there making me feel better and powerful and loved that I decided to get his paw on my arm. I still took a little bit of time to think it over and decided to add the frame. I look at it in the mirror now 3 years later and love it. I can't ever imagine looking at it and thinking it was a bad idea. He's been my rock for the first 8 years of adulthood. I feel absolute love, comfort, and strength when I see it on my arm. There's no better way to honor him.

My cousin's and I all got anchors with a little bit of blue in them and the initials for my grandpa how at the time was fighting ALS and has now passed. He got an anchor tattoo on his arm while he was drunk after he finished navy bootcamp. It was his only tattoo so we got one just like him. Then on my whole left calf I have a tribal tattoo with taro leaves, a hibiscus and a bunch of patterns that all have special meaning. I also have my other grandfathers name in Japanese on the tattoo as well. I got it after my other grandpa passed away. He was famous for his huge hibiscus flowers that he grafted and grew in Hawaii. A close friend did the tattoo for me and free handed the whole thing. It is my largest and my favorite tattoo. Then my last one (for now ;D) is a harry potter tattoo, it says always with a lightning bolt for the bottom of the Y, and the deathly hallows symbol for the A. It also has the 3 stars she uses in her books. Harry Potter grew up with me and it was the first "big" chapter book I ever read myself and my favorite franchise so I wanted to get something that reminded me of it after the last movie came out.

I got it in Colorado this past September and it is a reminder that no matter what challenges I have had thrown at me (and it's been a lot from the time I was 14 to now [I'm 31]), I've only got this one life to live and I'm amazing and worth all the good I've given out in my life. My second tattoo is the Breaking Benjamin symbol with "Don't Surrender" from their song "Evil Angel". I got it when I was 21 after a very shitty March where I lost a close friend (who was 18), my grandfather, and two other friends. The lyrics - to this day- remind me that life is worth living and I'm here for a reason and to keep going no matter how bad I want to give up. I don't think a Phoenix will be a bad idea. It may remind you of a tough time in your life - but it will also remind you of the strength you had to push on and live your life for you. You haven't given up and it doesn't seem like you plan to. The ocean and the beach are my favorite places. The more complex reason came after I left an emotional abusive relationship. The waves come in and out and are always fresh and new. They don't let things hold them down or let anxiety control how they react to things. For me a wave represented started new whenever needed, and at the time I got it I needed to remind myself that new was going to be good.

An Eric Church song called Springsteen. The lyrics say "Funny how a melody sounds like a memory" I got it to remind me of both my marriage and the fact that the song lyrics mean so much because music means so much to me. So many songs have memories attached to them. Unfortunately me and my ex are obviously no longer married. which brings me to my next tattoo. On the left shoulder blade, I got this tattoo a few months before our divorce was finalized and its a feather with birds coming out the top of the feather ( I know so BWB of me) but there is a quote on top of the feather that says "everything happens for a reason" that tattoo symbolized my new start. to remind me that all the decisions and everything that happens to me in my life is for a reason. whether its good or bad, there is always a reason behind it that makes me who I am and reminds me of where I am in life after good and bad things happened to me. I do want to get another tattoo around the first one I got. I don't want to fully get rid of it. But I want to put something fresh around it. Maybe some roses or peonies to symbolize how much I've grown since that time in my life. How I've blossomed so to speak. I honestly enjoyed getting these tattoos and ill always have the reminders and the memories behind them. I also put them in a spot where they can be covered by clothing if I needed to really cover them. Tattoos aren't bad in my opinion as long as you get them for the right reasons to you.

I had narrowed down placement for my first (outer right foot) and I had settled on my mother's favourite quote, carpe diem. She has Crohn's disease and almost passed when I was 7 from an infection after a surgery. After I graduated I was in a horrible car accident that should have left me in extremely rough shape, but miraculously there was a car that showed up on my side (I was t-boned on my right by a car going at least 80km/hr) which prevented me from rolling down the highway. I ended up walking out of the hospital with a concussion and cuts from the glass shattering in my arm and face but ultimately was okay. I later that year got my first tattoo "Jeremiah 29:11" in Hebrew on my foot :) my second tattoo is vertically on the side of my back and is my dad's handwriting that says "fearfully and wonderfully made". I love that I will have my dad with me forever and I intend to get my mom's handwriting saying "carpe diem" very soon!

Emuparadise is a good one and since I'm such a pro gamer *brushes shoulder off* I found star gladiator for you, episode I 😉 now to download this you have to go to emuparadise, download the right emulator (I suggest doing this on pc, that's the only way I've done it. seems to work better I guess?) but look up a tutorial on how to do all that cause there's too much explaining for one comment. If you're not computer literate or have just not done any of this I would definitely watch a YouTube video cause you need to have winrar or some sort of program to unzip your files or it won't work.

It's a chronic pain syndrome that is kinda like phantom limb pain but i habe all my limbs. I have it from the neck down. I've been struggling with it since i was 15 in 2012. I'm about to get surgery to hopefully improve my quality of life and pain(spinal cord stimulator aka scs). why i chose the quote is because its kept me going during hard times. Gave me strength when I was weak and god pointed me to that quote and ever since its been my quote. In 2016 I got it on my skin forever. I love it a lot. Its a matching tattoo with my best friend as well. Wasn't suppose to be matching but she was like "i like that. I want to get a ribbon to support you for awhile. is okay if i get the same one?" I didnt care and I loved she wanted to get a ribbon to support me. mine is on my bicep and hers is on the side of her arm.

I still believe in God and I think that the Dragonfly also is a great representation of how one dedicates themselves to God. Dragonflies are born in the water in an egg and then they are a larvae. Then as if they accept Christ, the dragonfly pupates and changes into hit's final, beautiful stage. As the dragonfly bursts through the water, in it's baptism, it emerges in the shape of the cross and flies into the air, as if into heaven. Josh, I didn't get the tattoo until I was 31 after I had been mulling it over for 10 + years.

My Mom is my hero and she never gives up. 2nd tattoo is tribute to the angels we lost in the Colorado theater shooting. I was supposed to be there that night, but I didn't go because I knew it would be packed. It was very close to home. 3rd tattoo is my favorite lyrics from a paramore song, "for all the things that you're alive to feel just let the pain remind you hearts can heal." It has a skull behind it with flowers and butterflies emerging from it, to show that even from something as ugly as death, can come something beautiful. 4th tattoo was a fun random one, an octopus holding an open lipstick. 5th tattoo is a succulent. My sister in law and all the girls in the wedding party got matching tattoos. I like to think of my tattoos as the timeline of my life. I can look at them and remember those times. I was going on a study abroad trip and it was kind of for safety in case there was an emergency, and kind of for peace of mind for my parents. Now I'm almost 23, and I've gotten loads of comments on it. About how it's "such a great idea" or how it's "so tasteful" haha. Even being a nurse, people compliment me on it constantly. I use it as a way to spread awareness about type one diabetes as well, so that's pretty cool. 😊

I've gotten a lot of shit for getting an autograph tattooed on me but her music has helped me through some of the darkest moments in life and I honestly don't think I'd even be alive today without her. My tattoo to me is a symbol of strength and a reminder to keep going and to just breath in, breath out and get through whatever is happening. Tattoos are really for you and you alone. So I got my tattoo artist to jazz it up and incorporate a green heart in it cause green is my favorite color. 3. Winnie the Pooh for my dad: My dad and I are very close. He got a homemade tattoo when he was very drunk before I was born. All his friends used to call him Pooh Bear, still do. So he got a very crude version of Winnie the Pooh and it says Pooh Bear above it. So I got a much better version of Winnie the Pooh and got Daddy above it. A lot of my friends make fun of it because they say it's trashy but I love it. 4. Daisies with watercolor: Daisies are my favorite flower and I fell in love with the look of watercolor tattoos. So I went to a very highly respected artist in the Baton Rouge area and told him a vague idea of what I wanted. It's 3 daisies overlapping with watercolor dripping off. It's my favorite one. good luck on finding your tattoo. I know everyone says it's addicting and that sounds stupid, but once you get one you will understand.

One year later I went back in and asked for an underboob/sternum piece with a cat eye in the center. The eye is from the opening credits of CATS The Musical, which is what sparked my love for music, theater and dance.

It's my tribute to them. I have the lung cancer awareness ribbon on my left forearm with my grandfathers name, birth year, and passing year on it. I have a bird on my right upper chest area made completely out of song notes because music is my life. I relate everything and anything to music, and music has gotten me through some stuff. And lastly I have a colorful anchor on my right calf (I know so cliche 🙄) it means that I am the anchor of my family, when shit starts to hit the fan, I some how manage to get everyone back together again.

It's the last line of a Victor Hugo poem I fell in love with, and it says "she hath wings" with a little bird. It's on my arm and I see it every day. To me it's a reminder of my own strength in any situation and I love it. The full poem is "Be like the bird, who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet she sings, knowing she hath wings." My second tattoo is a little red shoe on my ankle. I sing with a women's ensemble and we wear red shoes in every performance. Earlier this year one of our members, and one of my greatest friends, died suddenly. On the day of her memorial service a few of us got the red shoe tattoos in her memory. I love them both, and I'm kind of itching for a third... Maybe not something attached to a tragic situation!

799. Kim Castaneda: The story behind my tattoo (worth reading) as a child I grew up in a home with an alcoholic father. Things were never ok, I was scared of going to my own home. I was terrified of my own father but growing up as a catholic Latina there's a Spanish show about the Virgin Mary and her miracle roses to people who would come to her. So I'd always pray and pray to her to help my family and I, pretty much to ask God to help us cause I just couldn't anymore. I knew it would take time and it wasn't gonna happen in a second but it'll happen so I always kept my faith. Sooner or later things started to change and it finally got to the point where we got up on our feet , he was in another country so I didn't live in fear. Miracles after miracles happened to where I now live a whole different yet amazing life. I never got my rose I'd always wished to get, so I decided I wanted to get a tattoo of it on my left upper arm. Whenever I get anxiety and depression caused by my past I look over and i remind myself of how far I've come, how strong I am, how much worth I have and how God has always been at my side. It's my miracle rose that I'll always have on me for strength, it makes me see the positive side to everything and anything if I ever get negative. It's a part of me that's never surrendered. So that's my first tattoo 🌹❤️ I'll be getting my 3rd one soon too

I am a cantor at my church (the person who leads everyone in doing during mass) and have been singing at church since I was 9 years old. Church and music mean a lot to me which is why I got it. My brothers friend designed it for me at my request and I had his design as my background for 6 months on my computer to make sure that I would be okay with having it on my body for the rest of my life.

My friend and I were supposed to both get tattoos but she backed out so I had to take the bus there and walk back by myself. I got "I'm Not Okay;" under my right breast. I picked the font and size out myself and it was quite the process. The meaning to it stems from my history with mental health and how I used music to cope (embarrassingly enough it stems from My Chemical Romance). The semicolon has the same meaning as the trend of them go. Together they can say that even though I'm in a rough spot, my story isn't over.

When they took out my liver i had no live liver cells left and the doctors had no idea how I was alive. Anyway I have a huge scar on my abdomen that looks exactly like a peace sign without the circle. My mom got my scar traced then tattooed in the same spot but got a huge flower in the center to represent my "new life".

Malcolm Jay: My tattoo story: My grandmother passed away in December and she sent me a Christmas card that reached me after she had already passed, and in it she wrote "we love you just as you are". My grandma prior to her passing had found out I was transgender, and she went out of her way to make sure I knew it didn't matter to her or my grandfather. Knowing how she felt about me, and especially finding out after her death right around Christmas, meant the absolute world to me. I got that line tattooed in her handwriting on my forearm, and I will absolutely cherish it forever. My advice, get something that does have meaning, but don't be afraid to get something that reminds you of the past. It keeps you grounded, a constant reminder of where you've been. Dee H: My tattoo is on my wrist and it says "Stronger". it's pretty much to remind myself that no matter what I've been through throughout my life, no matter what has happened to me and no matter what happens in the future, I'll always come out stronger then before. Its extremely meaningful for me because I have depression and anxiety so that's another reason for that specific word :)
